If you’ve ever heard the name Majid Jordan before, you most likely know the name as the featured artist on Drake’s 2013 hit, “Hold On, We’re Going Home”. The rhythmic beat and Drake’s infectious crooning combine for what I thought to be one of the best songs of 2013, so much so that I decided to take a look into this “Majid Jordan” and see if they had any material besides this one track.
To (unjustly) summarize the duo’s story, the two met at Toronto University, started making music, released the Afterhours EP under the name “Good People”, and at some point were signed to OVO Sound. So if these guys were so quickly signed by Drake’s label, their EP had to be pretty damn good, right? Well…

Personally, I find the project to display the range of capabilities the duo has to offer (electronic, R&B, and even reggae), but having done that it doesn’t create a coherent experience. It’s only a free EP, so you can’t expect that much from the project in that regard anyway. My favorite songs are “Hold Tight” and “Tea & Coffee”.
“Hold On, We’re Going Home” is undoubtedly Majid Jordan’s best work yet, but it shows what promise they have under the OVO Sound label. Let me know what you think!
