The Unconventional and NSFWU Photos of Revelry

If you haven’t heard alreadyRevelry Music and Arts Festival was a major success, with the majority of attendees coming to Langdon Street for rappers G-Eazy and Waka Flocka Flame, as well as DJ Dillon Francis. Here are a few of my thoughts about what I heard music-wise throughout the day:

– The local rappers that performed on the Terrace know how to hold it down. If you live in Madison and are into hip hop, you should really take some time to look into Max Meridius, Lord of the Fly, and CRASHprez. Also make sure to check out their DJ, *hitmayng, who also rocked the silent disco and utilized AIM sounds for his DJ drops all day. I could only cite the nostalgia as how hilariously awesome those drops were.

– Rising pop star Sky Ferreira played a solid set, and it was the only full set I watched from the main stage all day. I was disappointed when “I Blame Myself” was never played, but I think she and the band were on a strict time limit for their set, and I bet she has been sick of playing it from her TV performances anyway.

– I wish I would have stuck around for G-Eazy’s set, as he had a live drummer performing with him and it sounded great from what I remember. I sacrificed for the live tweets though.

– The best part of the night for me was probably when I had a GoPro recording Waka’s DJ hyping up the crowd by playing popular rap bangers such as “Bugatti” and “Pop That”. I was in the middle of the crowd without having to be pressed shoulder to shoulder with everyone. Oh, the freedoms of the press area. Then I heard “Hannah Montana” by Migos for the first time and laughed my ass off at the chorus. I had no idea what was going on.

– Waka’s set could have been better though. The DJ often cut the music and tried to feed off of the crowd reciting the lyrics to Flocka’s songs, but this actually felt right (and not awkward) a couple of times. They definitely would have been better in greater moderation. Watching the crowd go nuts while the DJ dropped prison/tornado sirens on the track was still insane. Check the Revelry Facebook page if you don’t believe me that this show was TURNT up.

– Dillon Francis: The music was loud. The lights by head Reveler Josh Levin were amazing. What else is there to say? The DJ delivered. I posted some Vines that night of his set. If you really want you can look back through my Twitter to find them, because I’m not tech savvy enough to embed them right.

Now to the photos. I’ve narrowed it down to a few that I liked for different reasons, one of which being that some may be NSFWU (Not Safe For the Wisconsin Union). I’ll let the captions speak for themselves. Revel on.
